FORT WORTH, Texas (Oct. 8, 2020) — The Ben Hogan Trophy Award Foundation has announced that Oklahoma’s Logan McAllister, Georgia Tech’s Noah Norton and Florida State’s John Pak are the three finalists for the Ben Hogan Award September Golfer of the Month honor.
McAllister, the Big 12 September Golfer of the Month, claimed victory at the Colonial Collegiate Invitational at Fort Worth’s Colonial Country Club, the site of the Ben Hogan Award dinner each year. The junior from Oklahoma City, Okla., posted a 54-hole score of 207 (-3) to come out victorious against a 60-player field that consisted of nine golfers ranked among the top 60 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. It was his second career college win.
Norton, who was previously named the Ben Hogan Award Golfer of the Month last December, placed tied for eighth at the Korn Ferry Tour’s Wichita Open. The product of Chico, Calif., carded a 12-under-par score of 268 over 72 holes, firing four rounds in the 60s in his debut event on the tour. In addition, the senior finished as the runner up in a 77-player field at the Rivermont GCAA Amateur. His score of 204 (-12) earned him a spot in a two-man playoff.
Pak, a senior, earned Low Amateur honors at the 2020 U.S. Open after tying for 51st place at venerable Winged Foot Golf Club. The product of Scotch Plains, N.J., was one of 13 amateurs in the field and the only one who made the cut. His two-day 5-over total of 145 included an opening-round 69. Pak finished the major championship with a four-round 298 (+18), besting a list of players that included Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Collin Morikawa, Justin Rose and Jordan Spieth.
The monthly honor counts any college, amateur or professional event completed during the month. Winning a monthly award is not a prerequisite to be named a Ben Hogan Award semifinalist, finalist or winner.
Fifteen total ballots are eligible to be cast, with 12 coming from members of the Hogan Trophy Award Foundation and Friends of Golf and three social media fan ballots. Those votes are issued to the top vote getter on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, with the contests open through Monday (Oct. 12) at noon (CT). The winner will be named at the conclusion of the voting period.
The Ben Hogan Award is awarded annually to the top men’s college golfer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions over the previous 12 months. The Ben Hogan Trophy was first issued by the Friends of Golf at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles in 1990. In 2002, the Ben Hogan Award moved to Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, and revised its criteria to its current standard of honoring the outstanding amateur and collegiate golfer.
