FORT WORTH, Texas (May 14, 2025) – The Hogan Trophy Award Foundation has announced a $20,000 gift to the Southern California PGA (SCPGA) Foundation to help underserved high school programs and local youth golfers adversely affected by the Eaton and Palisades wildfires in January.
The SCPGA Foundation, the charitable arm of the Southern California PGA, is a longtime partner with Friends of Golf (FOG), the organization that created the Ben Hogan Trophy in 1990 and jointly presents the Ben Hogan Award alongside the Hogan Trophy Award Foundation each year.
The SCPGA Foundation’s core mission is to introduce, nurture and sustain a lifelong love of the game of golf. Through its five pillars, the Foundation strives to provide access for all those who wish to play regardless of race, color, or socio-economic background. The five pillars are: PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere), ClubsForeYouth®, SCPGA Junior Tour, Grants & Scholarships; and Community, Accessibility & Advocacy.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Hogan Trophy Award Foundation for this generous gift,” Anthony Leone, Foundation Director of the SCPGA, said. “The wildfires earlier this year had a devastating impact on many of our junior golfers and high school golf programs. This donation will help us provide new golf equipment through our ClubsForeYouth Program for those who need it most, ensuring that these young athletes can continue to pursue their passion for golf despite the challenges they’ve faced.”
Since 2002, the Hogan Trophy Award Foundation has donated more than $1.2 million to charitable endeavors, providing scholarship grants to colleges as well as gifts to programs that have suffered tragedies. Leone will receive the check for the Southern California PGA Foundation at the Ben Hogan Award Dinner on Monday, May 19, at Colonial Country Club.
“The wildfires in Southern California earlier this year were heartbreaking and devastating to so many,” Harold Muckleroy, Chairman of the Ben Hogan Award, said. “Our friends at FOG were among the people who were deeply affected, so we are honored and fortunate to be in the position to give to a cause close to their hearts and help young golfers and high school programs in need in and around the Los Angeles area.”
The Ben Hogan Award presented by Baird annually awards the top men’s NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfer based on all collegiate, amateur and professional events over the previous 12 months. The Ben Hogan Award has honored the outstanding amateur collegiate golfer at Colonial Country Club since 2002. Prior to its move to Fort Worth, the original Ben Hogan Trophy was issued by Friends of Golf at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles beginning in 1990.
Over the years, recipients of the Ben Hogan Award have combined to accumulate 70 PGA TOUR wins and amass more than $465 million in prize money on the tour.
