FORT WORTH, Texas (Oct. 11, 2021) — A trio of conference September Golfers of the Month—North Carolina’s Ryan Gerard, Luke Kluver of Kansas and Arizona State’s Cameron Sisk—have been named the finalists for The Ben Hogan Award September Golfer of the Month honor.
Gerard was named the ACC Men’s Golfer of the Month after winning the Rod Myers Invitational and tying for seventh at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational. He helped the Tar Heels to team titles in both events. Gerard’s winning sum of 201 (67-66-68) matched the lowest score in Rod Myers history, while his 15-under score was the fifth-best mark in relation to par school history. During the month, the senior from Raleigh, N.C., carded a 68.50 scoring average and fired sub-70 scores in five of his six rounds.
Kluver collected the Big 12 Conference monthly accolade after picking up a victory among his three top-10 finishes in September. The senior from Norfolk, Neb., registered his first career collegiate victory at the Gopher Invitational with a 10-under 203. His other results included shares of sixth at the Marquette Intercollegiate (208, -8) and 10th at the Windon Memorial (210, -3). For the month, he owned a 69.00 stroke average and shot par or better in all nine rounds as the Jayhawks claimed one outright tournament title and one co-championship.
Sisk, a native of San Diego, Calif., was named the Pac-12 Golfer of the Month after logging a victory and a runner-up showing in two events. The senior won the prestigious Maridoe Invitational by virtue of a sudden-death playoff following a 7-under-par score of 209 (70-66-73) over 54 holes. Just four days later, he tied for second place at the Fighting Illini Invitational with a 2-under 208 (71-69-68) to finish two shots off the pace. For the month, Sisk recorded a 69.50 stroke average over six rounds.
The Ben Hogan Award’s monthly honor counts any college, amateur or professional event completed during the month. Fifteen total ballots are eligible to be cast, with 12 coming from members of the Hogan Trophy Award Foundation and Friends of Golf and three social media fan ballots. Those votes are issued to the top vote getter on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, with the contests open through Wednesday, Oct. 13 at noon (CT). The winner of the monthly award will be named following the close of voting.
The Ben Hogan Award is given annually to the top men’s college golfer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions over the previous 12 months. The Ben Hogan Trophy was first issued by the Friends of Golf at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles in 1990. In 2002, The Ben Hogan Award moved to Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, and revised its criteria to its current standard of honoring the outstanding amateur and collegiate golfer.
