FORT WORTH, Texas (Feb. 12, 2021) — The Ben Hogan Trophy Award Foundation has announced that Florida State senior Vincent Norrman is the Ben Hogan Award January Golfer of the Month.
Norrman, who hails from Stockholm, Sweden, won the Timuquana Collegiate by one stroke, carding a 13-under 203 (68-66-69). Norrman recorded a birdie on the final hole to claim the individual title, his first since joining the program as a graduate transfer.
He began the spring season by placing seventh at the Camp Creek Seminole Invitational following a three-round 212 (-4). For the month, he owned a 69.17 scoring average over six rounds.
Norrman is the No. 11 player according to the World Amateur Golf Ranking and is currently listed 46th in the Scratch Players World Amateur Rankings. He was a member of the victorious International Team at the 2020 Arnold Palmer Cup.
The Ben Hogan Award’s monthly honor counts any college, amateur or professional event completed during the month. The other finalists for the January honor were junior Jacob Bridgeman of Clemson and sophomore David Puig of Arizona State.
Fifteen total ballots were cast, with 12 coming from members of the Hogan Trophy Award Foundation and Friends of Golf and three social media fan ballots. Those votes were issued to the top vote getter on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. Bridgeman claimed both the Twitter and Facebook votes, while Puig won the Instagram tally.
The Ben Hogan Award is given annually to the top men’s college golfer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions over the previous 12 months. The Ben Hogan Trophy was first issued by the Friends of Golf at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles in 1990.
In 2002, the Ben Hogan Award moved to Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, and revised its criteria to its current standard of honoring the outstanding amateur and collegiate golfer. Winning a monthly award is not a prerequisite to be named a Ben Hogan Award semifinalist, finalist or winner.
