FORT WORTH, Texas (Feb. 10, 2021) — The Ben Hogan Trophy Award Foundation has revealed the three finalists for the Ben Hogan Award January Golfer of the Month. The trio of honorees are Jacob Bridgeman of Clemson, Florida State’s Vincent Norrman and David Puig of Arizona State.
Bridgeman, a product of Inman, S.C., claimed medalist honors at the Camp Creek Seminole Invitational by firing rounds of 64-66-71. His 15-under score of 201 earned him a five-shot victory and was the best season-opening tournament sum in school history. The junior is currently ranked No. 72 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
Norrman, a senior from Stockholm, Sweden, won the Timuquana Collegiate by one stroke, carding a 13-under 203 (68-66-69). He also placed seventh at the Camp Creek Seminole Invitational following a three-round 212 (-4). For the month, the No. 11 player according to the WAGR owned a 69.17 scoring average over six rounds.
Puig, a sophomore ranked 19th in the WAGR, was dominant en route to a nine-shot victory at the Southwestern Invitational, finishing with a 10-under total of 206 (70-66-70). The native of La Garriga, Spain, was one of just two golfers out of the 66-player field to finish under par. His first collegiate win came in just his fifth career start.
The monthly honor counts any college, amateur or professional event completed during the month. Winning a monthly award is not a prerequisite to be named a Ben Hogan Award semifinalist, finalist or winner.
Fifteen total ballots are eligible to be cast, with 12 coming from members of the Hogan Trophy Award Foundation and Friends of Golf and three social media fan ballots. Those votes are issued to the top vote getter on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, with the contests open through Friday (Feb. 11) at noon (CT). The winner of the monthly award will be named Friday afternoon.
The Ben Hogan Award is awarded annually to the top men’s college golfer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions over the previous 12 months. The Ben Hogan Trophy was first issued by the Friends of Golf at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles in 1990. In 2002, the Ben Hogan Award moved to Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, and revised its criteria to its current standard of honoring the outstanding amateur and collegiate golfer.
